PACT Skaneateles

After a drunk-driving accident resulting in the death of a Skaneateles High School student in June of 2004, a group of parents began meeting informally to discuss how we as a community might be able to change the culture surrounding teen drinking and drug use.

The group met a number of times over the summer and also met with members of other community groups (Young Life, churches, the Collective, Skaneateles Drug and Alcohol Task Force).  Several areas of concern were identified and action groups were formed to focus on the following areas:  Parent Outreach/Keep Safe Programs, Educational Programming, Social Programming, Teen Outreach, School Issues, Law Enforcement Issues and PR/Outreach.

P.A.C.T. hosted two general information meetings at the Presbyterian Church in Skaneateles.  More than 80 people attended, many of whom joined one of the action groups.  A steering committee made up of representatives from each action group was formed. The steering committee will provide organizational management as P.A.C.T. works to promote the mission of the group.
