Our Country’s Good is the story of convicts and Royal Marines sent to Australia in the late 1780s as part of the first penal colony there. It follows Second Lieutenant Ralph Clark’s attempts to put on a production of George Farquhar’s restoration comedy The Recruiting Officer with a cast of male and female convicts. The play shows the class system in the convict camp and discusses themes such as sexuality, punishment, the Georgian judicial system, and the idea that art can act as an ennobling force.
Our Board President; Mr. Ed Porter has undergone medical treatment and is recuperating at home. Because of his illness and the extensive recovery time the Vice President of the organization (Dia Carabajal) will be taking over his responsibilties as per our Constitution and at his request. We all wish Ed well, and looking forward to a speedy recovery.
The next board of directors meeting will be held at Willard Chapel on Tuesday, January 20th at 7pm. Board meetings will now, normally be held on Tuesdays and will be announced in the events section of our web site.
Carry On, Santa
The Board would like to extend congatulations to the Director and Playright, Barbara Murphy on a successful presentation of her original musical; “Carry On, Santa” The heartwarming story was presented free of charge to the public twice a day during the annual Craft Show at CCC on Dec 6th and 7th. About 35 members of the Auburn Players pooled their talents to entertain both children and adults alike with the words and music of Ms. Murphy. Grace Lentini provided the fantastic arrangements and Bourke Kennedy was in charge of the scenery. The cast also came together, to successfully reprise the closing number at the show “Christmas in the Finger Lakes” presented at Auburn Public Theater. Many thanks go out to the parents of our “Elves” and “Reindeer” for their time and efforts.
