Genesee St., Skaneateles, has two events planned over the coming weeks: a Trollbeads trunk show Aug. 28-30, 2009 and an exhibit of oil paintings and prints by Ithaca artist Dee Sprague opening Sept. 4.

Trollbeads trunk showTrollbeads originated in Denmark in 1976—today there are more than 500 interchangeable beads in the collection, each with its own story. The beads are made from such fine-quality raw materials as 18K gold, sterling silver, Italian glass, natural pearls, precious stones and Swarovski crystal.Choosing among them, customers create their own one-of-a-kind bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings.

“The possibilities are endless,” says shop owner Sarah Panzarella. “We’re delighted to give our customers this opportunity to create their own works of art. When they leave, they will have a unique piece of jewelry that they’ll treasure for years.”

The first 25 customers who make a Trollbeads purchase each day will receive a free bracelet—or, if they already own a bracelet, a fifth bead free upon the purchase of four.

The show runs Aug. 28-30—Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Opening reception for Dee SpragueAn exhibition of works by Dee Sprague—a self-taught oil painter from Ithaca—will open Sept. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. with a wine-and-cheese reception and music by The Usual Suspects, an old-time string band.Sprague’s paintings are often described as “enchanted dreamscapes—like something out of an antique fairy tale.” They include images of free-spirited mermaids, whimsical women, and lovable old-world animals.

“I feel extremely lucky that I am able to make my living doing what I love—painting,” says Sprague. “I choose joy in my life, and I put a bit of it into every piece I paint.”
