Calling All Crafters….And Would-Be Crafters!

Have you always wanted to learn to knit? Crochet? Quilt?

Now’s your chance, as fall classes get under way at Patchwork Plus Quilt and Yarn Shop, 2532 Cherry Valley Turnpike (Rte. 20), Marcellus.

Scheduled to begin soon are:

• “From the Beginning,” covering the basics of quilting. Over the course of six weeks, students create a four-block wall hanging. 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 28. $85.

• “Beginning Crochet.” In this three-week class, students complete a purse, scarf and shawl. 1 to 3 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Oct. 4. $30.

• “Beginning Knitting.” Over the course of three weeks, students complete a simple project from a pattern of their choice. 10 a.m. to noon or 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays (starting Oct. 11) or Thursdays (starting Oct. 13). $30.

If you already know the basics, these classes might be of interest:

• “A Green Thumb for Everyone,” a class in appliqué in which students create one flower block a month. 1 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. once a month for 10 months, starting Sept. 22. $21 per session.

• “Serger/Overlock Refresher Class,” 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 or Nov. 12. $25.

• “Hats Hats, Hats,” demonstrating knitting techniques for hats. 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month for three months, beginning Sept. 27. $40.

• “Mystery Quilt.” 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on three consecutive Fridays, beginning Nov. 4. $45.

• “Silk and Ribbon Christmas Stocking,” a serger class in which students weave together red and green silk duponi and white ribbon to create a decorative, functional stocking. 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 22 or Dec. 10. $25.

• “Versatile Wave Purse,” an intermediate-level class in which students create a purse with a zipper closure and pockets on the inside, then make interchangeable, reversible covers. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 30. $32.

Two free classes will also be held:

• “Sewphisticated Ladies,” a show-and-tell and discussion of techniques for owners of Bernina 820/830 sewing machines. 12:30 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month for three months, starting Sept. 17.

• “Monday Knitters,” in which participants work on their own knitting projects and on hats to be donated. Canned goods or non-perishable food items are requested, so that they can be donated to local food pantries. 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.

“For 25 years, our mission statement has included ‘passing down the craft,’” says Patchwork Plus co-owner Judi West, who notes that the shop offers a variety of demonstrations and other educational programs throughout the year.
