Fun Fact about the Syracuse area …did you know…
… that in the year 1900, three Syracuse-born brothers, Sam, Lee and Jacob J. Shubert, founded the Shubert Organization that was responsible for the acquisition of thousands of theaters and productions of Broadway shows in New York City. By 1916, the Shuberts became the nation’s most important and powerful theater owners and managers; by the 1920’s, the Shubert’s owned, managed or booked over 1,000 playhouses across the United States. This organization currently owns and operates 16 Broadway theaters in New York City as well as others in Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC. They are represented by a star on Syracuse’s Walk of Fame that is located just outside the Landmark Theatre on South Salina Street. The Shubert brothers are considered to be the founders of Broadway.
