Music News and Dates from Dave and Lonnie Chu
Dear friends / fellow music lovers in Central New York:
Dave and I are now working as a duo playing good ol’ American and Latin standards of the 20th century. We have a website: http://daveandlonnie.com – where you can see our calendar and sign up for email notifications of our shows.
We also have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-and-Lonnie/479887848795735
– please like us!
You’ll find us at parties, events, restaurants, assisted living centers – any spot where folks want to enjoy some of the best songs written by the likes of Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, the Gershwins and many more.
2013 New Year’s Eve, 7:30 – 10:30, we’ll be playing next at Zabroso Restaurant in Oneida, where CIA-trained chef Ruben Lopez serves some amazing dishes from Spain and Puerto Rico.
Lonnie Chu studied vocal music at SUNY New Paltz before taking off for Spain where she lived several times. She earned her BA in Spanish at Le Moyne College and her MA in Linguistics at Syracuse University. She has always used music when teaching Spanish and English as a Second Language online, at Syracuse University and, currently, at Onondaga Community College. She was the manager of and singer in Puente Flamenco, the flamenco troupe in which she and David began making music together. Lonnie, too, is getting back to jazz roots that go back to a childhood during which listening to all the old jazz greats – Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday singing Gershwin, Porter and the like – was as routine as singing in four-part harmony with family around the piano. To be able to sing with as talented a musician as David Chu is a dream come true.
