When: Sunday, April 27, 2014 2 PM – 4 PM
Where: Willard Memorial Chapel, 17 Nelson Street, Auburn, NY 13021
Please join us for an afternoon of lovely music played in a lovely setting! As you listen to the harp’s peaceful and contemplative sounds, you also will learn a little about the harp itself.
Ms. Scarpino-Stoutenburg holds a Master of Arts in musicology from Penn State’s School of Music. She has performed with the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra & the Altoona Symphony
Ms. Scarpino-Stoutenburg’s presentation will include works from harp masters such as Tournier, Grandjany, Thomas, Salzedo, and Hasselmans. Intermingled with these works, she will discuss practical examples of the instrument’s construction and its strengths and limitations, focusing specifically on how the harp differs from its stringed cousin, the piano. She will trace the history of the harp from the ancient through the modern age, discussing specific aspects of the evolution of performance style and practice. Each work performed will correlate directly with the topics discussed and will highlight the various and unique aspects of the harp’s performance capabilities.
Tickets for this concert are $10 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Willard Chapel. The chapel’s main entrance is on the south-facing side of the building, reached via Nelson Street. A fully accessible entrance is located off Seymour Street on the building’s north side. Please call the chapel at (315) 252-0339 for more information.
